Spotlight on…October

Autumn is upon us.  Crispy mornings and chilly evenings, but beautiful colours in between.

 

There’s a buzz with the Rugby World Cup, the release of the much-awaited latest Ridley Scott film ‘The Martian’ and of course spooky fun with Halloween.

 

Here at MondaytoFriday, we want you to make the most of your weekday home so here’s our pick of arts, food and bars for you to enjoy after work in some of the most popular Mon-Fri cities.  Enjoy!

 

London

Rugby World Cup – enjoy the matches in Fanzones across the capital – Olympic Park, Richmond, Wembley and Trafalgar Square.  Big screens and big atmosphere!

 

Food & Drink

The East London Liquor Company, Mile End.  An old glue factory transformed into a gin distillery.  It’s a bit of a hidden gem tucked away in a Bow Wharf carpark, but worth the find.  They make gin, vodka and small batches of rum.  Great drinks in a great venue.

 

Upstairs at The Ten Bells, Spitalfields. Made famous by Jack The Ripper, this classic East End boozer is paving the way as the coolest cocktail venue in town.  Big on atmosphere and even bigger on fresh ingredients and a well-constructed cocktail menu.  The ‘Shorty’ (half pour cocktails – a new trend borrowed from our neighbours in NYC) allows you to sample lots of different cocktails without a massive bar bill (or hangover!).  Cocktails priced between £6-£8.

 

Bristol

Rugby World Cup – Bristol Sports Bar and Grill. Watch the World Cup on the big screen and enjoy a tapas menu by Michelin starred chef Josh Eggleton.

 

Theatre

The Stick House – An extraordinairy theatrical mix using film, music, performance and creative digital technology.  Spinning a journey of love and betrayal through the deep tunnels beneath Bristol. Critics have described it as breathtaking.  Booking until 17th October at The Co-Co Klub.

 

Food & Drink

Steak of the Art, Cathedral walk. An exciting new venue combining West Country sourced steaks with an art gallery which sells quality, affordable art.  Nestled on Bristol’s harbourside – what could be better?

Arts

The Ashmolean – opened in 1683, The Ashmolean is the oldest public museum in the world.  An Elegant Society, Adam Buck – artist in the age of Jane Austin is on display throughout October.

 

The musuem’s famous ‘Live Fridays’ where guests can view the museum at night (7.00pm-10.30pm) turns to ‘Dead Friday’ on Friday 30th October and explores ghouls and spirits across cultures and trough time.

 

Food & Drink

Raoul’s Bar. Heralded in the Sunday Times as one of the world’s top 50 bars, Raoul’s is a firm Oxford favourite.  Dark and decadent, the bar serves every cocktail you could ever wish for. Fresh ingredients and mixologists who can advise you, whilst entertaining you with their cocktail making skills. Great fun.
